MiFi Just Made Life Easier

MiFi Just Made Life Easier

I love living in the country WAY better than in town but got spoiled by TWC High Speed Internet. It’s not available here. As someone who works from home, good (and fast) internet is a MUST. I’ve been toiling over what to do and luckily got in on a great plan to increase our data about a month ago. I tried tethering to my phone but if internet worked, calling didn’t – and vice versa. Uggghhhh. Long story short, I added a MiFi hot spot to our account yesterday and it sure makes life a lot easier! While it’s not as fast and I have to pay attention to how much I use, I feel like every day we are figuring things out and taking steps in the right direction.   It was a lazy day for Maya and Haize, and they were just fine with it!...
Greenhouse Love

Greenhouse Love

There are two projects I’d like to work on this summer … building a chicken coop (and fenced-in area) so we can keep chickens again, and erecting a greenhouse. I wrote a post a few days ago with links to some of the chicken coops we like. Find it here. Today I’m researching greenhouses. I really like the gothic arch style greenhouses …   Photo Credit: Gothic Arch Greenhouses But, I’m not sure … it might be harder to build than the hoop style … Photo Credit: Greenhouse Megastore   We’d like something bigger than this, but here is a video tutorial for a 12′ x 8′ Gothic Arch Greenhouse.   Here is an Efficient Hoop House that is 18′ x 30′.   Extensive Video in 4 parts. Here is part 2 of a 32′ x 48 Greenhouse.   This isn’t about greenhouse construction but totally worth the watch. Lots more to come. I’m just scratching the surface...
Office-ing on Orchard Street

Office-ing on Orchard Street

So there IS, in fact, one problem with the 19 … our internet service! We are still trying to decide what ISP to go with and have opted to use our cell service in the meantime. Typically I’ll use my iPhone as a hotspot but I cannot make calls at the same time which is an issue if I’m conducting a meeting. I also have to be outside or in the doorway to get it to work properly. Luckily we still have our house on Orchard Street and when I have lots to accomplish, I typically go there to do so. It’s also nice to have  that option when it rains a lot (like today). I got this site re-vamped, plus lots of other web work done today. Tomorrow will be more berry picking, gardening, small online tasks and offline design work...
It’s My Birthday

It’s My Birthday

Today is my forty-&#%@ birthday, and my first one on the 19! What a great, chill day it’s been. It is in the four o’clock hour as I sit here and write. The birds are chirping, frogs and croaking, dogs are snoring, hummingbirds are buzzing (by my head, literally), the breeze is gently blowing and I couldn’t be more content to just BE. HERE. NOW. I woke up this morning with a gentle hug from my honey telling me happy birthday before he whisked off to work. Immediately thereafter I checked my phone to find a sweet message from my M that she wrote right after midnight last night – one of the kindest, most thoughtful Instagram posts I’ve ever read – all dedicated to me! I love her! My friend, Allison, and I made plans to have coffee this morning, so I tied up and got things ready … The 19 is quaint but you don’t need much with beautiful surroundings like this. We ate some of my homemade, just picked black raspberry pie! Allison brought me the most beautiful flowers that she picked from her yard! I had a little down time with the dogs so I decided to read – poems of all things! And I found one I really liked … I worked out (push mowed about 2 acres) and enjoyed my favorite berry beer around noon. And now I’m just waiting on J to get home so we can grill over an open fire. Life is good. Happy B’day to...
Foraging for Black Raspberries & My First Pie Ever

Foraging for Black Raspberries & My First Pie Ever

The black raspberries are coming on fast so I spent 2 hours this morning ‘foraging’ them. I put foraging in quotes because it’s not that hard to do – simply take a walk, look around and pick the ripe ones. It was hot, sticky and I’m hopeful I don’t wind up with more poison ivy! I did look before stepping and reaching but the weeds are thicker than ever now. After I finished and saw the yield, I knew I needed to surprise J with something yummy!   It felt auspicious as I made pie that my grandma always used to make for me on my birthday!   I adapted this recipe by Paula Deen. It turned out great too! I really like this country living!...
